TOP-10 FOR RAPHAEL LESSARD IN A NASCAR TRUCK AT CANADIAN TIRE MOTORSPORT PARK
Canadian Short Track Nationals in Jukasa on September 1st
After four oval track races in the United States in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, Raphael Lessard raced a truck this weekend for the first time at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) road circuit. The challenge was daunting, and the young Canadian was very much up to it. At the wheel of the #54 FRL Express truck, Raphael Lessard started ninth and defended his position fiercely while learning more about this complex track as the laps went on.
After a hectic race, from ninth place at the start to 19th place at the end of the first stage, and 13th at the end of the second stage, Raphael Lessard describes his adventures on the way to his tenth place at the finish. "I spun in the early laps and made it back onto the track quickly. If you are alone in a corner, the truck wants to get sideways, as if the rear end was taking off, and more so if you are side-by-side with another truck.
Our race strategy conceived by the DGR-Crosley team guys was spot on, as the truck's handling and my driving kept improving lap after lap. We fought with the top ten drivers on the track, a great first experience for me in this series and on a road course. This was my last scheduled NASCAR truck race this season, we hope to do even more in 2020, and are actively working to find partners," explains Raphael Lessard.
Canadian Short Track Nationals - Pro Late Model 250 - KBR Development (August 31 and September 1)
Raphael Lessard will be at the wheel of the #20 Jean-Paul Lessard & Fils |FRL Express car for his second race in the Canadian Short Track Nationals (CSTN), held at the Jukasa Motor Speedway on August 31 and September 1. More than 63 drivers have already entered and will be vying for the $75,000 winner's purse. Qualifying and the race promise to be quite a show.
"It's great to be back at Jukasa with the Michigan-based KBR team. Last year we had the fastest times in both practice sessions, started in fourth place and led several laps during the race. A frustrating slow puncture near the end of the race deprived us of a podium finish. Last year the crew had never seen the track before and we really did quite well, so we will certainly arrive this year even better prepared. We want to qualify well and go all-out for the race from there. As last year, there will certainly be some heavy action on the track, more so given the amazing $75,000 first-place money. This is a race you do not want to miss," said the young driver.
